How many legs are on this bus?

There is a bus with 7 children inside

Each child has 7 bags

Inside each bag there are 7 big cats

Each big cat has 7 small cats

All cats have 4 Legs each

How many legs are inside the bus?

Thanks David

  1. 10990 legs. (7 times 7 plus 7) times 4 per bag, times 49 bags, and add 14 for the children's legs too. unless you also add for the driver!

  2. WOW! That was quick.
8 minutes from post to answer.
    Thanks for playing.

  3. errr I get a little different answer....
    7*7*7*7*4=9604
then add 14 for the kids
    9590

  4. Er, none. Lots of legs "in" the bus but "on" the bus there are wheels.

  5. You could nit pick about whether the small cats or even the bags are inside the bus too (That isn't explicitly stated). Only 14 legs is also an answer then.

  6. None:
There is 7 Kids inside, but no on!
there is possibly 6 to 12 wheels on the bus, but that depends.
if you were to argue that the Kids are on the bus, that would be 14, it is not stated that the bags are on the bus, and putting cats inside the bages is dam cruel to boot.

  7. 7 Kids X 7 bags per kid = 49 bags

    49 bags X 7 big cats per bag = 343 big cats

343 big cats X 7 small cats per big cat = 2401 small cats

    343 big cats + 2401 small cats = 2744 total cats

    2744 total cats X 4 legs each = 10976 cat legs

    10976 cat legs + 14 Kids legs = 10990 legs

  8. Zero legs...

The kids are legless amputees and they are holding the bags of kitties out the windows.

  9. This is complete nonsense. Just try putting 1 cat in a bag let alone 56.

  10. busses don't have legs, they have tires.

  11. 7 kids + 1 bus driver = 32 legs

    7 kids x 7 bags = 49 bags

    49 bags x 7 big cats = 343 big cats

    343 big cats = 1372 legs

    343 bis cats x 7 small cats = 2401 small cats

    2401 small cats = 9604 legs

    9604 small cat legs + 1372 big cat legs + 14 children legs + 2 driver legs = 10992 legs

  12. The first anonymous answer was right but it may have been hard for non mathmeticians to follow the logic. Here is a deeper explanation that arrives at the same answer.

This is not a trick question. All children and bags are inside the bus. There is no driver because one was not mentioned but if you want a driver just add two legs.

Now, here we go (starting at the bottom)...

7 small cats have 4 legs each = 28 legs. Each large cat has 7 small cats plus himself which equals 28 + 4 or 32 legs for each large cat. Each bag contains 7 big cats or 7 x 32 = 224 legs per bag. There are 7 bags per child which is 7 x 224 = 1568 plus the two on the child which equals 1570 legs per child. So with 7 children we have 1570 x 7 = 10990 legs inside the bus.

  13. hey brainiac it says how many legs are on the bus...if your gonna get technical is being in a bus the same as on the bus???

  14. 14, cus cats have paws, not legs

  15. Each child has 7 bags
Each bag has 1 big cat and 7 small cats = 8 cats with 4 legs each; so in 1 bag, that's 32 legs for the cats X 7 bags = 224 legs of cats + 2 legs for the child... equaling 226 legs for one child with its 7 bags; just multiple that times 7 children and the answer is... 1,582! (if you add the driver, the answer is 1,584!)

  16. so is this cat in a bag on a bus, like there school lunch program???

  17. the bus, was a Greyhound? if so, you have to add 4 more legs.....

  18. There is a bus with 7 children inside 7 kids 14 legs
Each child has 7 bags w/ 7 big cats 49 big cats 196 legs
Each big cat has 7 small cats 343 small cats 1372 legs

    1582 legs total

  19. i would have said, 9618

    7*7*7*7*4+14

.... maybe im wrong, pretty drunk...

  20. 14 legs. The rest are in bags

  21. no tellen when 25% of the kids have head lice!!!

  22. draw a diagram for one kid=k

    |--bag |-bigcat |-littlecat --4legs
    |--bag |-bigcat |-littlecat--4legs
    |-bag |-bigcat |-littlecat --4legs
    k---| -bag---|-bigcat---|-littlecat--4legs
    |-bag |-bigcat |-littlecat--4legs
    |-bag |-bigcat |-littlecat--4legs
    |--bag |-bigcat |-littlecat --4legs

    Totals for each group:-
    (7*224) (28+ 7*28) 7*4=28
    =1568 =224
    then total for 7 kids (14+7*1568) =10990
Now you can SEE where the numbers come from

  23. 14 Legs. It's a double-decker bus, and all the girls are down IN the bus, while all the cat-filled backpacks are upstairs ON the bus.
