Public Service Announcement

Alcohol-drinksAs Ben Franklin said: In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria.

In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E.  coli) - bacteria found in feces.  In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop.

However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purificationprocess of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Remember: Water = Poop Alcohol = Health
Therefore, it's better to drink alcohol and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of shit.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information: I'm doing it as a public service.

Thanks Joe P

This has been true forever -- poor water is one of the main reasons the ancients made other beverages like mead, beer, and cider. We take clean, chlorinated, filtered well water completely for granted. In the third world, clean water is still a rarity.

In the third "Back to the Future" movie, Marty is offered water at the table by a relative back in the wild west. The water is sludgy by our standards. Only clean well water was fit to drink back then. The dangers of unclean water were well known by then.

So does this mean if someone defecated in a glass of water and boiled it the author of this article would drink it? Bad writing and poor logic seems to have gone into this justification. Alcohol and boiling do not remove the must from the brew. Even filtering and racking does not remove all the must.

Also in most brews you drinking lots of yeast poo, and even live yeast that has not been killed by the process. On some be3rs and wines home brewers save the bottom must and add sugar to get the yeast kicking again and use it in their home brews.
