Safe and sound

We made it back home safe and sound.  3,424 miles total.   I know everyone isn’t interested in our travels, as proven by this comment and the 2nd comment here, (which were very funny by the way), so I’ll limit my posts about the trip to maybe one more tomorrow, if I can come up with anything interesting.

So, it’s back to the things that brought you here originally.

I do want to thank the people who did follow along (virtually) on our trip west and commented.  I enjoyed reading the comments and that’s what kept me posting our exploits.

Thanks again.

Made it to Kansas City....

…. actually Overland Park Kansas to be exact.    425 miles today.  We ran into about an hour of rain about 15 minutes into our ride, just outside North Platte Nebraska.

We went to Jack Stack BBQ for dinner with my brother and sister-in-law.   Delcious!   After breakfast tomorrow with my brother and his family we’ll head for home.   Should be home by late afternoon.

Tooth extraction

A man goes to an oral surgeon to have a tooth extracted.  The dentist takes out a syringe to give the man a shot. "No way! No needles! I hate needles," the patient said.

The dentist starts to hook up the laughing gas and the man objects. "I can't do the gas thing. The thought of having the gas mask on is suffocating to me!"

The dentist then asks the patient if he has any objection to taking a pill. "No objection," the patient says. "I'm fine with pills."

The dentist then returns and says, "Here's a Viagra tablet."

The patient says, "Wow - I didn't know Viagra worked as a pain killer!"

"It doesn't"  said the dentist, "but it will give you something to hold onto when your tooth comes out."

Kitten almost set in stone..

Concrete cat… actually it was concrete.

Construction workers at a high school were shocked to find a small kitten trapped inside poured concrete on Friday.

The small kitten almost became a permanent part of a school under construction when it got trapped beneath concrete that was being poured to secure a set of stairs.

The kitten had apparently crawled underneath the stairs before concrete was scheduled to be poured.

The kitten was rescued and rushed to veterinarian Michael Good's office, where he was treated for dehydration and shaved.

On the way home

We departed Dubois Wyoming about 7 am this morning (Saturday).   We also departed with two of our riding companions, Mel & Janet.  They were going to go home a different way, to stop and visit with relatives near Denver.

We shot southeast across Wyoming (which I reiterate – is still very wide) and into Nebraska.  We ended up in North Platte Nebraska about 8 pm for the night.  We hit a little bit of rain and an incredible rainbow that went from one end to the other.

Reflections  There isn’t a lot to do (or see) in Nebraska, so I played around taking pictures while riding.  Actually, Nebraska is a lot more interesting than driving across Kansas which we’ll do tommorrow.

Sunday, we’ll make it from North Platte Nebraska to Overland Park Kansas.  There we’ll stop in and visit with my brother and his family.   We’ll head for home Monday.

Correction:  We won’t be crossing Kansas today (Sunday).  We’re crossing Nebraska to Iowa and then down I-29 to O.P.

Computer Problems

I am having some computer problems so that’s why I haven’t posted much besides my trip posts.  I think the problem might be related to the 1600+ pics I have in the folder from this trip.   I’m going to try to break the flder down into smaller folders.   I also downloaded a spybot cleaner and it found 146 things it needed to fix.   So hopefully things will help my laptop perform better.

Update:  I’m not able to copy pictures from the web usins the right-click “Save As” context menu thingy for some reason.  I’m working on this.

Yellowstone National Park Drive Thru

We only had a few hours to do a drive thru of Yellowstone National Park.   We stopped a few times, but not nearly enough.   But I saw enough to know that I’d like to return again when I have more time to explore.

It seems like we just keep seeing bigger and better things every new day.

Remnants from a forest fire.  This covered a lot of acres.

Traffic Jam  Shortly after we entered the park we ran across a traffic jam.  It seems that a herd of bison were crossing the roadway… and at their own  s l o w  pace.

After leaving Teton Naional Park we drove the longest 45 mile drive I ever did.  Much of the road is under construction and we were on gravel and dirt for what seemed like hours.

We’re off on an early start Saturday heading towards home.

Total miles logged so far:  Just over 2,000

Big bathrooms

I saw this sign at Chandler’s Ranch House Restaurant in the tiny town of Dubois Wyoming where we’re spending the night at a neaby Super 8 (the only hotel in town).

Beartooth Scenic Highway

After breakfast at Granny’s Restaurant in downtown Cody Wyoming we headed up to Chief Joseph’s Scenic Byway on our way to the Beartooth Scenic Highway which took us up to the top of Beartooth Butte.  It was about  50 mile ride which took us over four hours with stops to take in the beautiful scenery.

We passed into Montana to finish the climb to the top of Beartooth.

At the summit.  Elevation 10,947 ft.  I could tell that there was less oxygen at that level.  I got tired walking out to the edge to take this picture.  The temperature was about 15 degrees cooler than it was at the bottom of the mountain.

Tommorrow:  An early start to visit Yellowstone National Park, then we begin the journey home.  I’ll try to post tomorrow night if I have internet access wherever we stop.  (So far - so good, as far as that goes).

Barbie...

One day a father gets out of work and on his way home.  He remembers that it's his daughter's birthday.

He pulls over to a toy store and asks the salesperson,  "How much is the Barbie on the display window?"

The salesperson answers, "Which one? We have:

Work out Barbie for $19.95

Shopping Barbie for $19.95

Beach Barbie for $19.95

Disco Barbie for $19.95

Divorced Barbie for $265.95

The amazed father asks: "What? Why is the Divorced Barbie $265.95 and the others only $19.95?"

The salesperson annoyingly answers:

"Sir..., Divorced Barbie comes with:  Ken's Car, Ken's House, Ken's Boat, Ken's Furniture, Ken's Computer and...One of Ken's Friends."
