Zoom Zoom

The economical way.

Zoom

I’ll have to try that.  Only I’ll put the lens in the eyehole…not the viewfinder like this doofus.  (But at least he thought of it.)

What would be nice is if you could find a camera and binocular setup that the lens and the viewfinder would each line up with one of the eyeholes. What you see is what you get.

I've done this and it works suprisingly well!
We were at a tall ships festival and after a few blurry tries, we got a very interesting photo through the binocs. Give it a shot.

If you want WYSIWYG, get a SLR camera with a long telephoto lens.
If you can't afford that (most people can't), get a compact camera with a long telephoto lens (Panasonic Lumix FZ50, Olympus SP-550 UZ, ...).
And if you must use binoculars, most digital cameras display the image that comes through the lens on the screen (the optical viewfinder image and the real image are never 1:1 anyway, so the closest to "WYSIWYG" is what is on the screen).
