Bits & Pieces website update

OK, here’s the scoop.    I’ve set up a new website.  I now need to customize it.  I have tested it with a couple of posts and it seems to work, but it needs some fine tuning (logo, links, etc.)…. OK, quite a bit of fine tuning.  I’m using WordPress and I had a hard time just getting it set up, but that seems to be done now.  I know next to nothing about WordPress, so that’s making it a slow process.  I actually had the site set up last night, but it took me a couple hours just to figure out how to get to the Dashboard and write a post.   (Documentation is good once you already know how to do something.)  Anyway, I’m past that now and just need to learn how to use the website software.

I’m not sure how long that fine-tuning will take.   I’m working on a project for an organization I belong to that has to be done by Saturday and another for my business that is eating up my time too.

I have downloaded all the picturess from the old site to a hard drive here at Bits & Pieces headquarters, but I’m not sure that if I import the Blogger data (posts) that the pics will “line up” with the post automatically.  I don’t think I can repost them manually.  (There are 8,260 pics there.)  We may just be starting from scratch.   I’ll just have to see about that when I have the time.

I’ll try to at least make a couple posts a day here as I muddle through this.  I appreciate your patience and really appreciate all the kind words you’ve said about Bits & Pieces.

Stay tuned……

Dude!

Take your time! we will be here when you get it up and running, even if it takes a while. You've provided us with free entertianment at the push of a button and I for one think B&P is one of the best sites ever.

Seriously, man, chill out, go get some beer, and take a break. We will be here for you when you get back, and we don't give a damn how long it takes.

Take Care,
Mike

I've been using wordpress off and on for a few months and one of the things that I've found really helps is to use a desktop post-editor. There are several out there that a lot of people swear by, the one my wife and I like to use is called Post2Blog (I don't remember the link off the top of my head but I'm sure google does). Microsoft makes one too that a lot of people seem to like, and then there are a few paid ones that are supposed to be pretty good too.

It really helps, I never liked using the dashboard all that much with wordpress unless it was to customize something. If you need some help getting plugins or a theme setup for the new site Jonco, let me know and I'll see if I can help you out. There are some really great addons for Wordpress, if you know where to look and how to get them customized!

Jonco,

The picture problem can be solved in minutes. The only thing that takes time is uploading images and DNA A-record propagation, but thats just a matter of waiting.
Doing this will get bitsandpieces1.blogspot.com fully back online in minutes.

After that, you can always step over to Wordpress.
There are tools to import Blogger data to Wordpress. After importing, the photos will probably have a static url reference to your jonco48.com domain. So if you just upload all the photos in www.jonco48.com/blog/ directory, than the photos should be visible immediately.

We're super stoked that you're going to continue with your blog. The first thing my boyfriend does after checking his email is drop in and see what's funny today on B&P. But I will continue the general sentiment in these comments by saying take your time. We'll be here when you get back.
