Police are puzzled over area toilet thefts
Four commodes missing after two separate heists
JACKSONVILLE - A rash of stolen toilets in Jacksonville has city police thinking the previously unthinkable: Serial toilet thief on the loose.
The latest incident occurred sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning when two toilets were lifted from Phillips Park, said Deputy Police Chief David Shipp.
Jacksonville police were called Friday morning by a city maintenance worker after the commodes were discovered missing. The larceny brings the tally of stolen toilets this month to four. Two toilets were taken Dec. 15 from a building on U.S. 17 where Jacksonville/Onslow Habitat for Humanity stores its supplies.
"We have to look at the possibility that these two incidents are related," Shipp said.
