A man joined a big Multi National Company as a trainee.....
On his first day, he dialed the kitchen and shouted into the phone "Get me a cup of coffee, quickly!"
The voice from the other side responded "You fool, you've dialed the wrong extension! Do you know whom you're talking to?"
"No" replied the trainee..
"It's the Managing Director of the company, you idiot!"
The trainee shouted back "And do you know whom YOU are talking to, you IDIOT?"
"No!" replied the Managing Director angrily.
"Thank God....!!" replied the trainee and put down the phone.

Jon, this is a true story, only it happened at my company but long before I was there. I joined Sverdrup (started in 1928 -- first job was the bridge into Herman, MO). Anyway, General Johan Sverdrup, of Swedish decent ran the place and he was a pretty good old guy from the stories I've heard. One day, the phone rang on one of the electrical engineer's phones. He picked it up and said, "It's your dime", the General, being put off by this unprofessional answering system, said, "Do you have any idea of whom you are talking to?" The young engineer answered, "No." "This is General Sverdrup!" The Engineer replied, "Do you have any idea of whom you are talking to?" (With the same stern voice). The general replied, "No." The engineer said, "Good!" and hung up the phone.
I didn't hear this story until 1987. I was with Sverdrup Corp for over 10 years. Love Mary
