I’m afraid there might be a disruption with your being able to access Bit & Pieces. The place where I store all the photos I post has notified me that I can’t have a website on Blogger and host pictures on their host (GoDaddy.com). They say it’s against the “legal agreement”. They say the entire website must be on their server or they’ll shut me down by 1 AM Monday (January 21st) They have “disabled logging for the site” (whatever that means) because it was “causing an excessive load to the server and the statistics processing server”.
I won’t have time to work on this right away, so B&P might cease to exist for a while. I guess the blog itself will still be there, but the graphics will disappear. I have a lot of real-life stuff going on this week, so my posting was going to be a little lighter anyway. This didn’t help my frazzled existence.
The solution is to host the entire website there or go somewhere else for picture hosting. I’m not as tech savy as some may think so I’m really not sure just how to go about changing all that.
I wonder how all the other great bloggers do it…….
Stay tuned.
Jonco
Update: Well, they suspended the account as threatened. None of the graphics stored there are visible now. They gave me 24 hours to remove them. As of now they’ll let me remove them by FTP until the 24th. After that they’ll delete them. I don’t know if I want to spend the time or effort to remove them and post them somewhere else, or just start over somewhere else. Or I could host a new site with them and stop using Blogger. Decisions, decisions. I just wish I had more time to make an informed decision.
I have a busy week ahead this week. Things lighten up a little for me next week, so I’m not sure what I’ll do in the mean time. Thanks for all the comments to this post. Keep ‘em coming. I’m open for ideas.

Try Photobucket.
The losing of the files is a great loss. I don´t know how many pictures you have, but if you have less than 1Gb, you can host them in Blogspot: The traffic allowed is infinite.
Another option is to host them in Google pages. You can host up to 5 Gbs, but if you account became full, you can make another. The only problem is that you´ll need two login and unlogin to upload pictures and to post in the blog.
I know it appears as a low tech solution. There is a lot of people who blames against Blogspot and say "Worpress is better". But Blogger works perfectly.
I recommend Flickr. If you copy their embed code it's all good with the Flickr T's and C's. The image on Blogger will simply hyperlink to the image page in your Flickr account.
I've been blogging for six years and I've learned to let Flickr host all my images, Odeo host all my audio and YouTube host all my video. Let them eat the bandwidth.
That is utter crap. You paid for the hosting space and it should be yours to hotlink to or do whatever you want with it. If godaddy doesn't like it, that's tough on them. Move to a more flexible host. They're obviously just throwing a hissy fit that you're not using their domain.
You might want to consider moving the whole site over to a top-level domain such as bitsandpieces1.com or the like. Then manage posting with a content management system.
Why not just activate a WordPress blog on the godaddy.com site. I think WordPress is more flexible than blogger anyway and certainly is better for handling comment spam.
You can get rid of the word verification nonsense.
What I don't understand is that if the blog is hosted by godaddy or blogger. it is still going to force reads to the photos on godaddy.
Sounds like godaddy.com is just wanting to find a way to make more money off of you.
That I/O will still exist. I also agree with the other commenter in that you are paying for hosting and you give credit for all photos to the original source.
Good luck. finding good web host is not easy!
I co-hosted a site using Wordpress and it was very intuitive. Not a problem at all.
I use Flickr and have had no problems, but I'm not as image intensive B&P.
Good luck and I hope you stay up!
That is a bunch of crap. I hope you can figure it out.
Oh, I hope all your tech friends can help you figure this out soon. I'm sorry that things aren't going well, personally, either. Be solid and all good will come your way. I try to visit every day and will miss a whole bunch of laughs if somebody can't help and figure this out. Surely, with a successful blog like yours, that they would try to work with you...and not like this.
I have no useful input. I just wanted to break up the momentum of the previous posters.
May this photohost will do?
http://bayimg.com !!! or...
www.imageox.com
@ anonymous: Photobucket sucks
Seems they are jealous of your popularity~I wish i could help you too~Hope things improve for you in all aspecta
Jonco, what are you doing to mr if you go down I will have to look else where and that's not good.
BOOO for godaddy! (although I can partly understand their frustration)
Anyways, that was sad news. You're doing a good job keeping us entertained :)
I no longer use GoDaddy for anything...which means I had to move my 100 or so domains away from them in the last year. The guy that runs the place seems to be more into his own ego than the company. You might consider Amazon's hosting service. I believe they are plenty happy to accept file hosting. Or just set up a hosting account with IX Web Hosting and store your blog and pictures on the same hosting account. They are plenty affordable.
just use
http://imageshack.us/
it's free
Regards Imageshack, I had no problems with them when I used them.....
If you want to consolidate the you might try mee.nu
I got fed up with blogger a while back and jumped there. The blogger issues have been largely resolved but mee.nu is nice enough that I'm staying.
My blog...with...wait for it...pictures
http://brickmuppet.mee.nu/
Register here...
http://mee.nu/register/
Mee.nu has its own image hosting service and even supports animated .gifs
http://mee.nu/guide/images#more
Anyway best of luck with whatever you try.
Your blog is awesome!
I can sort you out some space as a short term thing if it's any use.
Other than that, I'd recommend using WordPress.com. Their default limit is 50MB, but you can pay for an upgrade to 1GB, 5GB and 10GB, which should cover space requirements.
As far as network traffic is concerned, I think that's free :)
Let me know if you need any help setting things up.
Wow...that sucks. Hope it all gets sorted out quickly. (I mean the blog stuff and the IRL stuff, too.)
Thanks again for coming out to the show last night. Hope you enjoyed it. It was good seeing you folks!
I'm no longer a fan of GoDaddy. After trying out several hosting services, I settled on pair.com. It costs a bit more, but it's very solid, no nonsense like you have to deal with now.
That's terrible news Jonco!
You could just upload to Blogger, but they restrict the size and you have to 'click for bigger'.
I have always used Imageshack http://imageshack.us/ and whilst it isn't perfect and photos regularly 'disappear', it does the job. It concerns me that I may receive a similar email from them one day though.
Another place for free hosting is AllYouCanUpload http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/
Good luck Jonco!

I wonder if this is what as happen to Rhetorical letter writer

I have 2 servers running that I host of, both with significant limit. one in Singapore, one in US, I do pay for it, but I can host your pictures for you for free for now, until either we make a permanent agreement, or you find a better alternative. I have an online Gallery, and additionally a load of fun photos I have collected.
Email me at tipton(at)mysecretroom_dot_com

you are victim of your own success.
4 million, remember.
Good luck, I hope you turn it around.
If you left blogger you should win more money on ads, should't you?
I would just get your own domain and then switch to word press. It's really easy and you can very easily import this entire blogger blog over there and not lose a thing (posts, pictures and comments). If you set it up with GoDaddy tell them you want a virtual dedicated server. The cost is low and the space you get is pretty big.
Jonco...I have zero ideas of what you can do…I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your site…I will send some positive vibes into the cyber works for a solution to come…for the coming difficult week I will send you my prayers…
One more reason to move to WordPress. Today they announced their FREE blogs can store up to 3GB's in images...
http://wordpress.com/blog/2008/01/21/three-gigabytes/
I think that's that settled then!
David
I like pie.
NOOOOO i need my bits and pieces and am addicted to the point where i wait all day on the computer waiting
The first priority is imo to backup all images stored on GoDaddy to your own PC (if you haven't already).
Next step is to find a new host. Websites like Flickr and blogger.com do offer free hosting, but having a FTP server to upload files is usually more flexible. So you probably want another Virtual Host like GoDaddy, which usually have a FTP server.
So, which one are you going to get? Which ones allow hotlinking without running a website on that Virtual Host? It's probably hidden somewhere in the Terms of Service.
I think most hosters will not complain immediately when you are only hotlinking. So I would say, get a cheap, good, well-known host for 1 month, and extend it per month if they don't complain.
You could try for example hostmonster.com, ixwebhosting.com, Bluehost etc. Or maybe you find one on this forum: www.webhostingtalk.com
After having a new virtual host, you need change the DNS A-records of jonco48.com to point it to your new virtual host. NOTE: you DO NOT have to cancel your GO-Daddy jonco48.com domainname, only your GO-Daddy virtual host account. Because you can simply point to the domainname to the new virtual host, even if it's on a server of a different hostingcompany.
Lets start a revolution!
e mail me and I will help you work it out

It's a sad fecking day, now where am I going to go for my down time.
Best of luck to you figuring out what to do, and I hope I can find your site when you are back on.
I have Flickr and Photobucket accounts for various blogs, but I mainly use Blogger to host pictures for my main Squarespace site. When I occasionally need a bigger pic than Blogger can give me, I then use my own Squarespace hosting. Or Flickr.
Blogger gave me fits UP UNTIL they upgraded to Blogger2. Since then, I've had no problem at all with pictures.
Please leave a trail of breadcrumbs to the new site.
I actually reccomend bayimg.com. It's run by the guys who run piratebay. They never delete images under any circumstances.
I echo with Don Ray about using WordPress. I recently started using and and works like a swiss watch.
Good luck on your new endeavor. I'm also a newbie on web hosting, so can't give you any suggestions regarding a replacement for GoDaddy or Blogger.
Best of Luck!
Omar.-
Lots of folks are now moving from Blogger to WordPress. As far as I know, they don't have the problems that Blogger has, and you can move your content in its entirety without much fuss. Just a thought...
...and don't forget to let us know where you end up. Your blog is my 3rd stop (after news and mail) and I would miss it greatly!
I'd hit it.
(Just wanted some people to have a laugh)
I just beat the shit out of the anonymous poster who just said: "hit it" again.
(Just wanted some people to have a laugh)
DEEYUM, this site is all that kept me sane at work =(, well good luck with it jonco
Love from Australia
My favorite site! Don't let The Man keep you down. Hurry back!
GGGRRRrrrrrrr.... A day without Bits & Pieces is a Boring Day.
F*** it, I'm logging off and getting a life. Think I'll go for a walk outside. Anyone remember how life was before this internet crap?
i will actually miss your posts... can you please update us regarding your site... it is a lifeline in our office (just don't let the supervisor see)...
your work is greatly appreciated.
I'm sorry i can't give advice, but i do appreciate the humor and wisdom you put into your blog.
Thanks from NYC
Bits & Pieces can't die. It becomes my general habbit to visit your blog every morning! I recommend both Flickr or Photobucket but Flickr have more function in case you want to add some detail for each pics. Hope you figure out the problem. Cheer up! ^_^
Why oh why would you even consider using a company that has decided to hold your files hostage? If you want to switch from Blogger - ok. Go somewhere else then and don't support the losers at GoDaddy. They have a history of consumer abuse, you're hardly the first.
For image hosting you have a lot of options. Amazon's service is actually fairly bulletproof. Flickr is good as long as they don't change their Terms of Service on you down the road. Dreamhost is incredibly inexpensive, has fairly responsive support, a great newsletter (really), but some occasional issues with downtime. There are even more options out there, at least that's one thing in your favor -- choice.
I don't have any advise as I'm a complete technical nuffy but we will follow you anywhere!!! I hope you get time to just breathe!!! xo
Yah, Anal Anony....We all take a walk, we all breathe fresh air, and we all have a life....Most of us are just trying to be supportive for Jonco. Wishing you the best, man. Good Luck with working this out. Simple....We (most of us) Love Your Site, Or Else We Wouldn't Be Here. All others can sit on it and rotate. Best Wishes XOXO

"I'd Hit It"
Thanks for the laugh.
Hope it all works out - you have a great site.
For what it's worth, I've used Flickr for years now and they're great.
Cheers
Tim
Don't give up Jonco, I love having a laugh on your site :D
THOSE BASTARDS!!!!!
Flickr user here too. It's been great so far so I recommend them as well.
Jonco, whatever you decide, let us know of where you move your site.
But please save your pictures. I enjoy going back through past posts and getting a laugh.
