Firearms refresher course

Gun control is a controversial subject….but these are pretty compelling thoughts.

1. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.

2. A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.

3. Colt: The original point and click interface.

4. Gun control is not about guns; it's about control.

5. If guns are outlawed, can we use swords?

6. If guns cause crime, then pencils cause misspelled words.

7. Free men do not ask permission to bear arms.

8. If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

9. Those who trade liberty for security have neither.

10. The United States Constitution
(c)1791. All Rights Reserved.

11. What part of 'shall not be infringed' do you not understand?

12. The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the
others.

13. 64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.

14. Guns only have two enemies; rust and politicians.

15. Know guns, know peace, know safety.
No guns, no peace, no safety.

16. You don't shoot to kill; you shoot to stay alive.

17. 911: Government sponsored Dial-a-Prayer.

18. Assault is a behavior, not a device.

19. Criminals love gun control; it makes their jobs safer.

20. If guns cause crime, then matches cause arson.

21. Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.

22. You have only the rights you are willing to fight for.

23. Enforce the gun control laws we already have; don't make more.

24. When you remove the people's right to bear arms, you create slaves.

25. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control.

The first one doesn't even make any sense. I could give a rat's about gun-control at this point...but the arguments should at least have some sort of logic.

Actually the first one does make since.

Subject: A person ruled over by another, especially a monarch or state authority.

Citizen: A national of a country without a monarch as the head of state.

The saying "Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not" is sometimes attributed to Thomas Jefferson. We have yet to find any proof that Jefferson ever wrote such a thing; indeed, he seems to be all but contradicting such an idea in the following quotation:

"Cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens. They are the most vigorous, the most independant, the most virtuous, and they are tied to their country and wedded to it's liberty and interests by the most lasting bands. As long therefore as they can find emploiment in this line, I would not convert them into mariners, artisans, or any thing else." - Thomas Jefferson to John Jay, 23 August 1785

Be cautious of reposting obvious email tripe like that. Let a little research on Snopes and elsewhere prevent you from repeating made up nonsense and looking stupid.

John,
Thanks for the advice...but I'm used to looking stupid.

Jonco,
Here are a few more related to guns and protection that a friend emailed me... (my favorite is number 3)
Gun Control... This is the law:
The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense.
The sword is more important than the shield and skill is more important than either.
The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

As John Steinbeck once said :
1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics are wrong.
3. I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.
4. America is not at war. The U.S. Military is at war. America is at the Mall.
5. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.
6. A reporter did a human interest piece on the Texas Rangers.
The reporter recognized the pistol Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?'.
The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'
7. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.
8. The sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm.
'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?'
'No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'
9. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!
AMEN!
I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. To which I said I did.
She said 'well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!' To which I said, 'of course it is loaded.'
She then asked, 'Are you that afraid of some one evil coming into your house?'
My reply was, 'No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching on fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too’.

Take care and have a Merry Christmas! Don't forget to stop by and visit us up here in Apollo Beach one of these times you're tarvelling to Moms! We ride too!

New Jersey just abolished the death penalty. It certaintly wasn't because the citizens of NJ favored doing so (78% was for the death penalty), it was becuase Gov. Corzine felt he had "evolved" more then it's citizens.

I guess we'll have more gun owners in NJ now.

guns are just a tool, people are who kill people with guns. we need better laws, as if anyone who uses a gun in a crime should have life in prison. if it was caught on film, death with no appeal.

I love number 5, since England is considering banning swords as well.

If guns cause crime, all of mine must be defective.

I used to like your blog until I read this. I am appalled by your ignorance and bad taste. If you intend to bring good natured humor into people's lives, stick to that goal. If you want to be political and piss people off, stick with that aim. Do not confuse or mis the two. I am pretty sure that anyone who has had their life, or that of a loved one, drastically altered or ended as a result of being the victim of a crime involving a gun does not feel the same. Personally, I view this issue very differently and am disappointed to see this here.

To the last anonymous,
Apparently you had a bad thing happen to someone you care about involving a criminal with a gun. I am very sorry about that, but that isn't the fault of the gun or legal law abiding gun owners. It is almost always the fault of the criminal with the gun. You can't take guns away from the law abiding citizens who want (and need) to protect themselves. That is their right as citizens of the United States of America. If you did force them to turn in their weapons, do you think the criminals would voluntarily turn their weapons in? I'm sure you know that wouldn't happen... then law abiding citizens would be sitting ducks.... and crime would skyrocket.

I usually try to post thing I think are "funny or interesting" as I've stated. I don't expect (by any stretch of the imagination), that everyone will agree with me. I hope people find enough things that they do like that they keep coming back. If not, it's no big deal...thats just part of life.

You can't agree with everyone all the time... and I don't want to do that. I know that a particular post might look differently to one reader than it would to another because of their personal life situation. My intent is not to insult or hurt anyone, but that will happen occasionally, and I'm sorry when that happens.
Again, my sympathies to you and your personal situation... and thanks for commenting.
